Overview

The framework

Lithuania has become one of the principal EU jurisdictions for e-money and payment institutions. The Bank of Lithuania acts as the single financial supervisor, including for crypto-asset service providers under MiCA.

Access to central bank payment infrastructure for licensed institutions has been part of Lithuania's appeal, alongside the ability to passport services across the EEA. Supervisory expectations on AML/CFT and governance have tightened as the sector has grown.
